Dreambert and Bedsmith, two beings of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar city, feeling lost and confused. As panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He suggests that they probably passed out while watching TV the night before, but before he can explain further, things get even stranger. A being named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives and insists that he is their friend. He says they had plans to go away together, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of him or any similar plans. They reluctantly follow Starlow outside, uncertain of their surroundings. They wander around the city, pretending not to recognize their surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As he shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, trying to reassure them. However, Dreambert and Bedsmith remain clueless and unable to comprehend their past or their relationship to Starlow. As the day goes on, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, and at first thinks they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior continues, he begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with their memories. As the day ends, Starlow’s uncertainty increases, and he wonders if there is something more behind their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they first woke up, and Wonky, still claiming to be their father, provides them with an unusual-looking bed. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they fall asleep, their minds are filled with questions about their identities, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories lies unanswered as they drift into a restless sleep, uncertain of what the future holds.
